Recommend a great used camera for cool photos I can take as a beginner?

Can you guys recommend a great film or digital camera that takes photos, for a beginner, that I can buy used on ebay for under $30? The price is flexi, but I’d like to know what the good brands are. I’ve heard Minolta is good, but the battery tends to die quickly.

Right-I’ve just packed in my digital-or rather it died first.
Have got Minolta X700 35mm SLR off e bay complete with 4 different lenses for £50.00 (around $100).
You can start off with just the one lens (recommend 35mm-70mm) as this is the most versatile of the four I got and will give you a lower entry cost.You can always build up on lenses later and again buy good second hand off e bay or similar when cash happy.
Great thing about this camera is that because it’s manual it is very versatile.Don’t let the idea of a manual camera put you off-you’ll take better pics and be more creative.You’ll set your own shutter speeds ,focus and apertures.
I’ve just got my first roll back and seriously got the best photos I’ve ever taken-not because I’m good but because the X700 is.
Don’t worry if you can’t get an original manual-you can download from the net.
Negatives can always be transferred onto disc if you rally want a photo library on computer.Else you can frame your best and hang ‘em round the house to impress.
There’s also an X700 club on Yahoo which you can join and ask questions/solve problems etc-with a good few hundred others.
A serious camera if you want more than just happy family shots.
As for batteries? Just keep a couple of fresh spare as you would for any other and you wont be caught out.
